Today I feel like talking about Abstract Expressionism and the more I admire and feel so inspired by this pictoric movement. It emerged in EE.UU around 1940 after Second World War, such a reaction to the social and political situation, taking Surrealism as one of it´s main influences. Abstract Expressionism had different currents, and inside them, diverse followers, but I want to focus my attention in the ones I really feel motivated and inspired for. Jackson Pollock, Franz Kline, Willem de Konning and Lee Krasner. They belong to the current called “Action Painting”, being Jackson Pollock the maximum exponent. At this technique, the point of attention is the gesture or movement, also called gestual painting. Franz Kline artwork is based in large black strokes, over big surfaces generally in white, with sometimes details in blue. I reminds to Chinese ideographs. Willem de Kooning could be situated between figurative art and abstraction. Lee Krasner , Pollock´s wife, had developed her career as an artist before knowing him, and she was deeply influenced by Picasso and Matisse . Put in a frame Lee Krasner only and exclusively inside Abstract Expressionisim is a reductionisim because her artwork is so prolific and vesatile in shape and concept. Due to this, I´ve classified a picture before her Abstract Expressionist period and other of this moment.
